What is Cataract?

Cataract, also known as Motibindu or Motiyo, is the clouding of the eye’s natural lens, leading to blurred or decreased vision. The clear lens we’re born with allows light to pass through to the retina for sharp vision, but with age or other factors, it becomes opaque, blocking light and causing vision loss.

Squint/ Strabismus

Squint is misalignment of the two eyes, wherein both eyes are not looking in the same direction. It is not related to any curse or good luck. It can be present from birth i.e. congenital or can be acquired later on in life. It can be constant i.e. present throughout the day or can be intermittent i.e. present for few hours a day.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a disease that causes progressive visual field loss (the extent of the surrounding that one can see) loss due to damage to optic nerve for which increase in eye pressure is a strong risk factor.

Flashes and Floaters

Floaters appear as dark spots, strands, or cobwebs moving in your vision, while flashes look like brief streaks of light. They occur when the gel inside the eye (vitreous) shifts or pulls on the retina. Occasional flashes and floaters are common, but a sudden increase can signal a retinal problem and should be checked by an eye doctor immediately.

Colour Blindness

Colour blindness doesn’t mean total loss of colour vision but difficulty distinguishing certain shades, usually red-green or blue-yellow. It’s usually inherited and caused by improper functioning of colour-sensing cells in the retina. Though there’s no cure, most people adapt easily to it.
